Northern Ireland Report on the Experiences of Same Sex Attracted Students: 'Left Out of the Equation'
Two initiatives set up in Northern Ireland, 'Cara-Friend' and the 'Rainbow Project', have released a report on the experiences of same sex attracted young people at school in Northern Ireland. 'Left Out Of the Equation' reported a lack of protection for lesbian, gay and bisexual young people in schools and showed the negative impact of homophobia and discrimination on the health and wellbeing of students. This amounts to them being denied a right to education in a safe and welcoming environment.
'Left Out of the Equation' also shows the positive impact schools can have by addressing sexual diversity and stamping out homophobia.
